Nam Hong homestay
Local homestay in Red Dao village country. Facility detail follows the Nam Hong programme facts for this household type — not copied eastward.

A private 7-day / 6-night hiking journey from Hoang Su Phi terrace country to the Dong Van Karst Plateau — Nam Hong, Ban Luoc, Lo Lo Chai, Dong Van, Ma Pi Leng, Meo Vac and the White Cliff trail in the Ma Pi Leng area — finishing with a private transfer toward Cao Bang City. Designed for travellers who want Northern Ha Giang primarily on foot, not as a conventional motorbike Loop. Walking days are substantial; a private support vehicle appropriate to the group size carries main luggage and handles unsuitable road connections.

West to east on foot where the ground deserves feet: Nam Hong and Ban Luoc terrace-forest days, a vehicle recovery day onto the plateau, then Lo Lo Chai toward Dong Van and Dong Van toward Meo Vac, closing on the White Cliff trail in the Ma Pi Leng area. Road kilometres exist — they are logistics, not the product.
Route outline
Day-by-day stops are listed beside this panel. A surveyed trail map for this journey will be published once final route data is verified.
Times and stops are indicative. Pace and arrival are set by the slowest walker, the weather, and the village.
A sleeper bus from Hanoi. You meet the private English-speaking trekking guide and the support vehicle at Tan Quang, then continue to Nam Hong. If arrival time and daylight allow, a gentle introductory walk on village paths, local roads and terraced farmland settles the legs — 1–2 hours, Easy. Overnight in a Nam Hong homestay. Dinner only. This is a walking-first start, not a sightseeing circuit of the Loop.
Long days, steep ground and altitude. Best for confident, well-prepared trekkers.

Homestay or bungalow after the hardest walking day. Exact house is confirmed for the departure.
local homestay. Do not treat this as the Then Pa programme Night 1 White Hmong ridge house, and do not generalise bathroom or wifi standards.
hotel or guesthouse after arriving on foot. Room standard is confirmed for the departure — not a universal Eastern hotel promise.
hotel or guesthouse after a 15–20 km plateau day. Rest role, not a market-only Loop stop.
remote walking days may use a picnic lunch so the walking line can follow trail and landscape rather than returning to a road-accessible restaurant. the guide coordinates picnic arrangements. Days 2, 3, 5 and 6 are the usual picnic days on this journey — still subject to weather and access.
Nam Hong and Ban Luoc evenings follow household cooking. Do not expect the same kitchen pattern in Dong Van or Meo Vac.
Dong Van and Meo Vac nights typically use a hotel, guesthouse or local restaurant setting rather than a trail picnic.
Clearer plateau and terrace walking; cold nights at homestays.
Cold mornings; mist possible on higher limestone.
Guides adapt individual trail sections after rain. Picnic and meeting points can change.
Each flagship journey is privately planned after booking. There are no fixed group departures and no shared timetable with strangers — the route is confirmed with you, then shaped to your dates, pace and preferences.
Your journey can begin from Hanoi, Ha Giang City, or another location we agree with you in advance. Transfers are arranged as part of the plan rather than as a fixed meeting call.
Every departure is private for your own party, unless you specifically ask to join or share with others. There is no open group roster and no strangers added to your dates.
The published itinerary is a proven skeleton, not a locked script. Days can be extended, shortened or combined with other regions where the ground and season allow.
Hotels, homestays and vehicles are chosen according to how you prefer to travel — from quieter village nights to more comfortable town lodging — within what each stretch of the route can support.
Walking distance, rest stops and the daily rhythm can be adjusted where practical, so the expedition matches the fitness and interests of those walking it.
Once your dates are confirmed, we prepare a personalised expedition plan covering transfers, overnight stops, pacing notes and what to pack — not a generic group circular.
No. This is a private hiking-focused journey that selects terrace and plateau walking corridors and uses a support vehicle for unsuitable road connections. It does not reproduce every kilometre of the motorbike Loop on foot.
No. Eastern Ha Giang can be explored walking-first, with private transfers and, on supported journeys, a vehicle for main luggage and road connections.
Travellers who want Northern Ha Giang primarily on foot: experienced hikers comfortable with consecutive 15–20 km days, and fit Moderate walkers who accept Day 3 as the hardest and the published grade as Demanding. It is not a gentle sightseeing car tour.
Travellers who want a motorbike Loop, Easy Rider days, or mostly vehicle sightseeing. Also a poor fit if recent walking is short city days only, or if you need a public from-price and a hotel-standard guarantee every night.
Day 1 is an optional 1–2 hour Easy walk if daylight allows. Day 2 is 15–18 km / 6–7 hours, upper Moderate. Day 3 is 15–20 km / 7–8 hours — the hardest day, Demanding effort. Day 4 is a private vehicle recovery day, not a walking day. Days 5 and 6 are 15–18 km and 15–20 km / 6–8 hours, upper Moderate. Day 7 White Cliff is 2–3 hours, Moderate. The published product grade is Demanding because of Day 3 plus consecutive long days — not because every day is alpine.
It can, if you already walk full hill days and accept upper Moderate Eastern days plus a challenging Day 3. If your recent walking is short city days only, start with a shorter published programme and enquire honestly.
Yes. White Cliff — Vach Da Trang — is a Moderate walk of about 2–3 hours on the White Cliff trail in the Ma Pi Leng area, on rocky, stone and dirt ground that can be narrow or uneven. It is not universally easy. This journey uses it as Day 7. The Ma Pi Leng on foot journal remains the informational owner for White Cliff / Vach Da Trang hiking questions.
the English-speaking trekking guide finishes the guided programme and a private driver continues toward Cao Bang. onward connection only — not Cao Bang walking authority. Accommodation in Cao Bang City is not included.
private support vehicle appropriate to the group size. It carries main luggage and handles road connections. It does not follow every trail. Vehicle type is selected for the group — we do not publish one fixed model.
On supported Eastern walking days, main luggage can travel separately by support vehicle while you walk with a light daypack. The support vehicle does not accompany every footpath. It meets the route only where access permits.
Private English-speaking trekking guide, private support vehicle appropriate to the group size, main-luggage handling on walking days, listed meals, route-specific overnights, picnic lunches on the remote walking days of this itinerary, and required local access / permit arrangements where applicable. The exact quote lists what is confirmed for your dates.
A public from-price is not listed — the journey is quoted. Cao Bang City accommodation is not included. Personal travel insurance, drinks beyond listed meals, tips and any self-arranged extra nights are outside the walking programme unless quoted.
Yes within field-truth limits: pacing, room preference and vehicle size can be discussed. We do not invent a different trailhead, a fixed vehicle type, or a Loop-on-foot rewrite.
Terrace geometry in the west and limestone, stone and village-path texture in the east. Light and weather change the same ground. We do not guarantee a named viewpoint or cloud condition.

Ha Giang has no marked national-park trail network. Paths follow irrigation channels, farm decisions, and weather calls made by people who live on the route. Local trail guides from each community negotiate homestay space, read fog on the ridge, and know when a bamboo bridge is safe after rain — alongside English-speaking trekking leads who handle logistics, pace and guest communication.
