The Dong Van Karst Traverse follows one direction: up onto the plateau from Ha Giang City, across its farming ridges and ethnic-minority hamlets, and out to its most dramatic edge — the Nho Que gorge beneath the Ma Pi Leng pass. You leave the road early and rejoin it only when walking is not the practical way through.

Four days that sample Hoang Su Phi in sequence — valley lodge first, then a full Red Dao terrace loop, La Chi Ban Phung with a weaving demonstration, and a farewell sunrise above the fields before the drive back to Ha Giang City.

The Ma Pi Leng Canyon Expedition follows the Nho Que river from above and then from the water itself: a rim day along the eastern edge of Tu San Gorge, a steep descent to a Giay village at the riverbank, a boat passage upstream, and a long climb into Lung Pu on the canyon's far wall. Most travellers experience this landscape from a viewpoint or the back of a motorbike. This trip spends a week inside it.
Ma Pi Leng Canyon Expedition

The Lung Cu Northern Frontier expedition follows the border plateau north from Quan Ba, through Hmong farming country and buckwheat ridges, to the flagpole marking Vietnam's northernmost point above Lung Cu. Most visitors reach that flagpole by coach; this trip reaches it on foot, arriving with the ridge still in your legs and the village of Lo Lo Chai behind you.

Ha Giang has no marked national-park trail network. Paths follow irrigation channels, farm decisions, and weather calls made by people who live on the route. Local trail guides from each community negotiate homestay space, read fog on the ridge, and know when a bamboo bridge is safe after rain — alongside English-speaking trekking leads who handle logistics, pace and guest communication.
