Times and stops are indicative. Pace and arrival are set by the slowest walker, the weather, and the village.
The drive from Ha Giang City follows the Chay valley westward — terraces appear in layers as the road climbs. By mid-afternoon you are in Hoang Su Phi with enough daylight for a short walk above the valley floor: wide field paths, irrigation channels pointed out by your guide, the first sense of how walls follow contour rather than compass bearing. The wooden lodge sits above the fields; dinner looks out over terraces as the light goes. This day exists to land you in the district gently — legs loose, eyes adjusted — before the longer walking days that follow.
Sustained walking on mixed terrain with some ascent. A good level of fitness helps.
Private rooms with valley views — buffer night before homestay simplicity.
Shared floor, wood-fired herbal bath, family table on the Nam Hong ridge.
La Chi stilt house above terrace walls — communal room, bath, weaving demonstration nearby.
Nights two and three are shared with the household — rice, seasonal greens, river fish or chicken, whatever the garden and valley supplied that week. Eat at the family's pace, not a restaurant clock.
Walking days stop at a host kitchen along the route. The group keeps moving through the afternoon rather than returning to a fixed restaurant.
Night one at the valley lodge offers a wider menu and private table — useful after the drive from Ha Giang City.
Dry paths, long light, terraces amber — the district's busiest and most photogenic weeks.
Plum and pear blossom, seedling green, warm valley afternoons and cool ridge nights.
Frost possible above 1,500 m, sharp morning light, few other groups on the paths.
Daily rain slickens terrace stone; walking days may shorten or reroute around stream crossings.

Each flagship journey is privately planned after booking. There are no fixed group departures and no shared timetable with strangers — the route is confirmed with you, then shaped to your dates, pace and preferences.
Your journey can begin from Hanoi, Ha Giang City, or another location we agree with you in advance. Transfers are arranged as part of the plan rather than as a fixed meeting call.
Every departure is private for your own party, unless you specifically ask to join or share with others. There is no open group roster and no strangers added to your dates.
The published itinerary is a proven skeleton, not a locked script. Days can be extended, shortened or combined with other regions where the ground and season allow.
Hotels, homestays and vehicles are chosen according to how you prefer to travel — from quieter village nights to more comfortable town lodging — within what each stretch of the route can support.
Walking distance, rest stops and the daily rhythm can be adjusted where practical, so the expedition matches the fitness and interests of those walking it.
Once your dates are confirmed, we prepare a personalised expedition plan covering transfers, overnight stops, pacing notes and what to pack — not a generic group circular.

Ha Giang has no marked national-park trail network. Paths follow irrigation channels, farm decisions, and weather calls made by people who live on the route. Local trail guides from each community negotiate homestay space, read fog on the ridge, and know when a bamboo bridge is safe after rain — alongside English-speaking trekking leads who handle logistics, pace and guest communication.
