— About us

Born in the mountains.
Built for the long walk.

Ha Giang Trekking grew from local guides who had watched outside operators rush travellers through their valleys. We walk slower, keep groups small, and let the people who live on the trail set the pace.

A company owned by the people you'll walk with.

Every full-time guide on our team is from one of the ethnic communities of Ha Giang — Hmong, Dao, Tay, Lo Lo, La Chi, Nung. They are partners, not contractors. Itineraries are shaped by the people who lead them, and homestay fees go directly to host families.

That changes how a trek feels. You are not being shown around. You are walking through someone's rice field, eating at their table, sleeping under their roof — with a guide who knows both the path and the household.

Slow travel, done properly.

We do not run motorbike loops, staged cultural shows or instant online checkout. Every departure is confirmed by our team in Ha Giang after a direct conversation — usually on WhatsApp, usually within 24 hours.

Core trekking programmes
— Where we walk

Hoang Su Phi first. The wider plateau after.

Our core is Hoang Su Phi — terraces, homestays and the Tay Con Linh ridges above the district. We also run village circuits in Du Gia and Quan Ba, and ridge traverses across the upper massif. Each destination has a full planning guide on its hub page.

— Your guides

The people who lead the trail.

Ha Giang has no marked national-park trail network. Paths follow irrigation channels, farm decisions, and weather calls made by people who live on the route. Our lead guides are from the communities on each programme — they negotiate homestay space, read fog on the ridge, and know when a bamboo bridge is safe after rain.

Named guide profiles and photos will be added as we publish verified bios. Below: the roles and field knowledge on each route.

  • Nam Hong · Ho Thau

    Red Dao lead guide

Nam Hong to Ho Thau · Ban Luoc Day 1–2

Sets rest stops on the lee side of ridge crests, not the highest point — wind above 1,500 m can drop visibility to twenty metres in afternoon cloud. Checks homestay allocation with host families by phone from Nam Hong when signal allows.

  • Ban Phung · Chay valley

    La Chi terrace guide

Ban Phung highest terraces · Ban Luoc Day 2

Checks the bamboo bridge over the Chay river before every crossing. After heavy rain, uses a contour path that skips the bridge but still reaches the hilltop hamlet for lunch.

  • Ta Su Choong · Tay Con Linh

    Dao ridge guide

Chieu Lau Thi sunrise ridge · Chieu Lau Thi cloud sea · Kieu Lieu Ti traverse

Carries the emergency kit on all Tay Con Linh programmes. Turns the group back if lightning is visible on the massif — town weather forecasts are unreliable above 2,000 m.

  • Nam Dam · Quan Ba

    Dao Cham village guide

    Nam Dam to Lung Tam

Translates between guests and the herbal-bath host on Night 1. Day 2 starts at first light — the forest ridge section has no water for the first three hours.

Where your fee goes

  • Homestay payments go directly to host families — we do not take a margin on meals or overnight stays.
  • Community and forest permit fees are included in every programme price and paid to the communes on your behalf.
  • Local lead guides are employed year-round on core routes, not only in peak season.
  • Lung Tam cooperative: cloth purchases go straight to the weavers; we do not resell indigo textiles.
