Kieu Lieu Ti: A Guide to One of Ha Giang's Quietest Ridge Treks
Plan the three-day crossing of the upper Tay Con Linh spine, with two wooden shelter nights and a long summit-to-ridge day.

Kieu Lieu Ti: the long ridge crossing.
Kieu Lieu Ti is the three-day crossing of the upper Tay Con Linh spine. It begins at Ta Su Choong, spends two nights in wooden mountain shelters and finishes through cloud forest and ancient Shan tea in Cao Bo.
This is one of Ha Giang’s quieter ridge treks because there are no villages between the two shelters. The middle day is the commitment: a pre-dawn summit walk followed by 18 km and eight to nine hours on the exposed spine.

- Kieu Lieu Ti three-day traverse
Three days, two shelters.
Day one climbs 11 km to a shelter below the summit. Day two is the 18-km spine day: summit dawn, open ridge, mossy forest and a second shelter. Day three descends 13 km into the Cao Bo tea valley.
The route is Demanding. It requires confidence with long days, uneven ground, cold exposure and two consecutive shared shelter nights. Carry a 30-litre daypack with dry layers, headlamp, water, personal medication and poles; the main bag stays at the start.
Shelters provide shared bunks, sleeping bags, mats, pillows and a stove, but no signal and no private room. Change out of damp climbing layers before sleep and protect spare batteries from cold.
The full spine, or a shorter route.
The traverse operates from October through April. Cold, clear conditions are commonest from October to February; March and April are warmer but mountain weather still changes quickly. June through September is outside the operating window.
Choose Kieu Lieu Ti only when the full crossing is the aim. Tay Con Linh cloud forest gives two days, one shelter night and a village finish. Chieu Lau Thi gives the Ta Su Choong summit approach without the long second shelter day.

Common questions.
How difficult is Kieu Lieu Ti?
It is Demanding, with 42 km over three days and an 18-km, eight-to-nine-hour upper-spine day.
How many nights are in shelters?
Two. Both are shared wooden mountain shelters with bunks, sleeping gear, a stove and no reliable signal.
Are there villages on the ridge day?
No. The middle day is self-contained mountain ground between the two shelters.
When does Kieu Lieu Ti operate?
October through April; it does not run in the June-to-September storm season.
Should I choose this instead of Tay Con Linh cloud forest?
Choose it for the full three-day spine crossing. Choose the cloud-forest route when two days and a village finish fit better.
Choose the full crossing only when it fits.
Check the middle day against your recent mountain experience, then send dates and walking history before committing to the traverse.
