Green season trekking in Ha Giang: May through August on foot
Green season deep-dive — planting water, monsoon pace and which programmes still walk. Parent overview: best time to trek Ha Giang.

Green season trekking in Ha Giang.
This article covers May through August walking — planting water, monsoon pace and which products still run. It is not the province-wide season calendar, not the harvest deep-dive and not the route chooser.
May opens the green season: rice seedlings, soft mist and daily rain that rarely lasts all day. Flooded mirror terraces replace harvest gold in May and June. June through August is monsoon — Tay Con Linh ridge programmes do not run; terrace and village routes still walk with slower, weather-aware rhythm.
Use the master season guide for month-by-month conditions across all collections, then return here if your dates sit in the green months and you need product fit and footing detail.

Footing, rain and cancelled ridge days.
Green season improves mirror terraces and reduces crowds on walls, but footing softens. Stone steps on terrace routes stay uneven; mud can persist days after rain on village paths. Pace slows — guides shorten loops, stay longer with host families or swap bridge sections when the Chay river is high.
Ban Phung may reverse the loop or skip the bamboo bridge when water is high; lunch in the hamlet still happens. Du Gia sits lower and walks year-round; wooden footbridges are checked before each crossing May through August.
Ridge & Cloud programmes do not operate June through September. Hoang Su Phi terrace and village routes below the storm band can still walk. Light rain is normal — full refund or reschedule only when we cancel for safety, not when mist hides a valley you hoped to photograph.

What happens if it rains on a trekking day.
Rain on a walking day can mean wet clay, slippery stone, slower walking, reduced visibility, a route adjustment, a delayed departure, or postponement where conditions are unsafe.
The guide and operator assess actual trail and weather conditions. That is not a promise that every trail stays open, that trekking always continues, that rain automatically cancels the tour, or that a guaranteed alternative route is waiting.
Published programmes may still operate in the green season, but route choice, pace and departure decisions depend on actual local conditions. We do not publish exact mud depth, named trail closures, or guaranteed road condition.

What still walks May – August.
Du Gia forest villages is the easiest year-round village day — lower valley, river paths, optional swim at the waterfall pool on the return leg when conditions allow.
Hoang Su Phi terrace programmes already published on this site — Ban Phung, Nam Hong, Ban Luoc — may still operate in the green months with weather-aware pacing. That is not a guarantee that every departure runs on the original line. Nam Dam Day 2 ridge has no water for the first three hours — fill bottles at the homestay before 06:00 regardless of season.
Do not book Ridge & Cloud or Tay Con Linh summit lines for June through August. If mountains are the draw, shift dates to October through April on the master season guide.

Who should wait for drier conditions.
Guests who strongly dislike mud or slippery terrain, need very stable footing, or want maximum visibility for landscape photography may prefer a drier period.
This page does not promise exact month conditions. Use the best-time guide to choose when to go; use this page for what walking is like when it is wet.

Common questions.
Is this the same as the best time to trek Ha Giang?
No. The best time guide is the master month-by-month calendar. This page is the green-season deep-dive for May through August only.
Can I trek Tay Con Linh in July?
Ridge & Cloud programmes do not run June through September. Terrace and village routes below the storm band can still walk.
Is green season good for terraces?
Yes for planting water and mirror paddies May – June, and green slopes through August — different from harvest gold. See the Hoang Su Phi rice terraces guide for the farming calendar.
What happens if it rains on a trekking day?
Rain can mean wet clay, slippery stone, slower walking, a delayed departure or postponement if conditions are unsafe. The guide and operator assess the trail that day — rain does not automatically cancel, and it does not guarantee the original line continues.
Confirm green-season fit, then book.
